Gymnosperms
Life Cycle:
Male gametophyte is the pollen grain, formed by meiosis inside the male cone. The cone is small and short lived, it drops off the tree after a few weeks.
Female gametophyte is the egg, formed by meiosis inside the female cone. Once fertilization is done the female sones houses the seeds until next spring. The female cone is long lived, and drops off a tree after two years.
Pollen helps eliminate the requirement for water used for fertilization. Its spread through wind as well as animals.
